Blenna

Viannos

Blenna is Biennos, today's Viannos, a small town in the east of Crete, away from the sea. Its name was traced either to one of the Curetes called Biennos or to the Greek word for violence, for here, the story went, the brothers Otus and Ephialtes laid violent hands on Ares. Inscriptions and coins give the true form Biannos, which lives on in the two villages of Ano and Kato Viannos. The town made a treaty with Teos, and the Ravenna list writes Blentia.
