Blera
Listen to the story
Blera, called Bieda from the Middle Ages until 1952, is an Etruscan town on a narrow tuff plateau between two streams, reached by the Via Clodia over two ancient bridges, the Ponte della Rocca and the Ponte del Diavolo. In the cliffs facing the town, tombs were cut into the rock from early times, some carved as great cubes with the burial chamber inside. Inscriptions often name soldiers from Blera, and its bishops attended synods in Rome between 487 and 502.
