Blanda

Palecastro di Tortora [3 · 4] · Maratea [5] · ausführlich [1 unten]

Listen to the story

Blanda, later the colony Blanda Julia, is sought on the hill of Palecastro near Tortora, where walls of huge unmortared blocks survive, although several other sites between Maratea and Belvedere Marittimo have also been proposed. The Romans captured it in 214 BC during the war with Hannibal, and the town still existed at the end of antiquity, when Pope Gregory the Great placed it under a neighbouring bishop.
