Bizone

Kavarna

Bizone is Kavarna on the Black Sea coast, on terraces rising towards the plateau of the Dobruja. Already in antiquity people argued whether it had been founded by the Thracians or by Greeks from Mesembria. The Roman general Lucullus took it in 72 or 71 BC, and soon afterwards an earthquake destroyed it, so that its land was divided between Dionysopolis and Callatis. Rebuilt later and fortified in early Byzantine times, it was finally destroyed in the seventh century.
