Bistuae Nova

Bugojno

Bistue Nova, New Bistua, is thought to have stood at Bugojno in Bosnia, on the site of an important Iron Age settlement of the Daesitiates by the river Vrbas, in country rich in gold and iron; older research placed it at Zenica. It was probably founded under the Flavian emperors, and many of its magistrates bore the family name Flavius. Its territory was so vast that in 533, at a council in Salona, its bishop Andreas asked for his sprawling district to be reduced. Excavations show settlement from the first to the fifteenth century.
