Bittio

Surduk

Bittio is Rittium, a fort on the Danube at Surduk in Serbia. Every other source, from the Greek geographer Ptolemy to a Roman register of routes, spells the name with an R; the map alone begins it with a B. A late Roman list of garrisons places Dalmatian horsemen here. The map sets Bittio eight Roman miles from Acumincum and thirteen from Burgenae, and draws that second stretch as two.
