Bobellas
Frattocchie
Listen to the story
Bobellas stood on the Via Appia, about eleven Roman miles from Rome, and its ruins lie at Frattocchie at the foot of the Alban Hills. The map gives it a small drawing of a hall-like building, marking it as more than a bare stop on the road. It was an ancient Latin town, held to be a colony of Alba Longa, and the Julii, Caesar's family, kept their ancestral shrine here, restored by Tiberius in AD 16. In 52 BC the politician Clodius was killed here in a brawl with the men of his rival Milo.
