Road station

Ad Mercurium

In the Ravenna list this station shrinks to a bare Ermu, but on the map it is Ad Mercurium, on the road between Ad Fontem Felicem, thirty-five Roman miles back, and Caspiae, forty-five miles on. Older research looked for it near Aspindza; another view puts it at Azkhur on the upper Kura, where both distances fit very well. Its name means at Mercury's, honouring the god of merchants and travellers, a fitting patron for a stop on a road through the mountains.
