Road station
Vatari
Fedj es Siouda
Vatari stood at a crossroads, where a road to Theveste branched off the highway from Carthage to Sétif, at a strategic point between the valleys of the Oued Mellegue and the Oued Cherf, probably at Fedj es Siouda. The border between Africa Proconsularis and Numidia seems to have run close by. A remarkable milestone found here gave the distances to Carthage, Hippo Regius, Cirta, Lambaesis and Theveste, but its figures are damaged. If the place is the Scalas Veteres of the historian Procopius, the general Germanus fought the rebel Stotzas here in 537.
