Thuburbiminus

Tebourba

Thuburbi Minus, the lesser of the two towns of that name, is Tebourba in the Bagradas valley, where remains of the Roman town survive, among them an amphitheatre. After 36 BC Octavian, the future Augustus, settled veterans of one of his legions here, and the colony bore their name; an inscription calls the place a municipium. Beyond it the road ran along the left bank of the Bagradas, where traces of its embankment can still be seen. The map counts sixteen Roman miles from Clucar and three to Thuraria.
