Tazarene

Kala i Nau am Hilmend (Miller)

Tazarene was probably not a town at all but a whole region: the name seems to go back to Paradene, which the geographer Ptolemy uses for the entire interior of Gedrosia. A kingdom of that name, Pardan, is known from inscriptions and coins of Seleucid, Parthian and Sasanian times in what is now south-western Pakistan, and the Persian kings Shapur and Narseh list its rulers among their dependants. The Ravenna list writes Parazene. Older research had looked for a road station at Kala i Nau on the Helmand.
