Caumatis

Caumatis may take its name from the Greek word for burning heat, unless it comes from an old Indo-Iranian word for barren land; either would suit its likely setting in the hot, marshy basin of Jaz Murian, where the Halil river peters out. The station lay on the road from Persepolis to Rana in Gedrosia, at the southern end of the Pariz range, where a side road wound north towards Bam; one suggestion places it at Kalansau by the salt lake of Jaz Murian. The Ravenna list has the same form of the name.
