Caturices

Bar-le-Duc

Caturices lay near Bar-le-Duc, on the road from Reims to Toul, at the border between the Remi and the Leuci. The Roman register of routes calls it Caturrigis, and older research linked it with a Merovingian coin reading Cathirigi. At nearby Fains a Roman camp and an inscription have been found. The name may recall the Caturiges, a people of the Alps. On the map a line runs from here towards Mose, which older research dismissed as a copyist's error, and the road onward to Nasium crosses a river.
