Catorissium
Le Bourg d’Oisans
Catorissium was a station on the road from Grenoble towards the Mont Genèvre. Its site is uncertain: one older view put it at La Garde, opposite Le Bourg-d'Oisans, where Roman ruins and traces of ancient mining were observed; others looked to Vizille, Livet or Saint-Pierre-de-Mézage. The list of places compiled in Ravenna names it Cantourisa, oddly among the cities of Burgundy. The map's distances on this mountain stretch are repeatedly too short, which makes every placement difficult.
