Syllio
Ruinenstätte Kocahisar Harabeleri auf dem Tafelberg Asar Tepe
Syllio is Sillyon, a fortified town on a flat-topped hill in Pamphylia between the rivers Kestros and Eurymedon, at the ruins of Kocahisar on Asar Tepe. The geographer Strabo calls it a lofty city, visible from Perge, and in 333 BC its stronghold held out against Alexander the Great. Legend made Mopsos its founder, and its coins of the third century BC still use a native form of the name, Selyviys. Settled from the early Iron Age into Ottoman times, it has kept a gymnasium, a temple, a theatre, a stadium and baths, and later became a bishop's seat.
