Strymon

Strymon, a station named after the river it crossed, today's Struma, lay thirteen miles from Sarxa and eight from Daravescos. The Strymon rises in the mountains of the interior, runs through the lands of Thracian peoples such as the Maedi, the Sintians and the Bisaltae and through Lake Prasias, and reaches the Aegean west of Eion; its lower course was navigable. In 481 BC Xerxes had it bridged at Ennea Hodoi, later Amphipolis, and until Philip II it marked the border between Thrace and Macedonia.
