Idomenia

Isar-Marvinci ?

Idomenia is Idomene, a Macedonian town on the Vardar, probably at Isar near Marvinci in North Macedonia, on the road from Thessalonica towards the Danube. The Greek historian Thucydides records its capture by the Thracians in 429 BC, and around 230 BC envoys from Delphi visited it. Excavations have revealed a temple, a late Roman wall, cemeteries, water pipes and a letter of the emperors Septimius Severus and Caracalla, a sign that this was one of the chief towns of the lower Vardar in Roman times. A milestone counts twenty stades from Idomene to Doberus.
