Road station

In Alpe

Radstätter · Obertauern (Miller)

Listen to the story

In Alpe, on the mountain, was the station high on the Radstädter Tauern pass, where the road from Salzburg to Carinthia crossed the main ridge of the Alps. Milestones show that the pass marked a boundary too: on one side they count the miles from Teurnia, on the other from Iuvavum, the Roman Salzburg. And they agree remarkably well with the map, which sets the pass sixty-three Roman miles from Iuvavum.
