Road station
Stratonicidi
Stratonicidi is written right beside Babylonia, so close that older research took it as part of that entry. Yet the Ravenna list names it separately, as Sartonochido, and it may well have been a station of its own on the road towards Pelusium. Its meaning is open. One idea sees a slip for the Sirbonian lake; another, a garbled Greek phrase for the camp of the Jews, the Castra Iudaeorum of a late Roman list of army posts, perhaps at Leontopolis, today's Tell el-Yahudiye. Herodotus already knew of foreign mercenaries settled on such camps in the Delta.
