Phacusi

Per-Sopt bei Saft el-Hine (Miller) · Fakus (Barrington)

Phacusi is Phakoussa, today's Fakus in the eastern Nile Delta, though the faded name is so hard to make out that one careful reading leaves it unresolved. The road along the Pelusiac arm of the Nile supports the match. The town stood where the Bubastis canal began and near an entrance to Trajan's canal, which the map does not show, and it later became the capital of the district called Arabia. Around it lay the land of Goshen from the story of Joseph, which Pharaoh gave his family as pasture for their flocks, and that drew pilgrims such as Egeria in late antiquity.
