Heracleo

Sethroë(Miller) · Tell Ayid (Barrington)

Heracleo is a bare name on the road across the eastern Nile Delta, and the line on to Pelusium has mostly vanished: only a short piece survives beside Pelusium itself, with no distance figure. The place was Heracleopolis Parva, the little city of Heracles, as Ptolemy calls it, a minor town not far from Pelusium, at Tell Ayid. The map counts sixteen Roman miles from Tanis, while the Roman register of routes gives twenty-two.
