Lebedo

Örkmez

Lebedo is Lebedos, an Ionian port on the Kısık peninsula near Örkmez, where remains of its walls with gates and towers survive. Lysimachus moved most of its people to Ephesus, and in 266 BC Ptolemy the Second refounded it as Ptolemais, though the old name soon came back. Later it became the seat of the guild of Dionysian artists, a company of actors who held a yearly festival with contests for Dionysus. The poet Horace called it a village emptier than Gabii, perhaps unfairly, since it went on minting coins until the 2nd century AD.
