Island

Micale

Listen to the story

Micale is an island on the Tabula, drawn among the islands of the Mediterranean with a name that has badly faded. Today only an M, a gap and a closing le can be made out; older copies read the full name, though one garbled the ending and a modern reading even began it with an E. No ancient source knows an island called Micale, but Greek writers, among them the geographer Strabo, knew a town and a peninsula of that name on the coast of Asia Minor.
