Road station

Lateas

? heute: ? beim Sapanca Gölü

Lateas is better read Plateas, as the Ravenna list has it, a station in Bithynia and the first stop east of Nicomedia on the inland road to Claudiopolis across the Sangarius. Where it lay is unclear: perhaps by Lake Sapanca, between Nicomedia and the river, or near the spot where Justinian later built his great bridge over the Sangarius, a river the map by mistake draws twice. On the stretch beyond, the kink that should mark the stop is missing.
