Concobas
Kangavar (Barrington)
Concobas is Kangavar in western Iran, in ancient Upper Media, where a wide field of ruins from Achaemenid and Parthian times survives. Isidore of Charax, the earliest known source for it, mentions a sanctuary of Artemis here, and travellers identified it with the remains on the eastern edge of the town, a place of worship of the Iranian goddess Anahita. The temple stood on a raised platform of limestone blocks, reached by a double staircase like those of Persepolis, and has been investigated since 1968; it is dated to the 2nd or 1st century BC, though some argue for Sasanian times.
