People
Raudiani
Listen to the story
The Raudiani are a people the map places in the far east of Persia, beyond the Euphrates. In antiquity only the geographer Ptolemy mentions their land, the Rhudiane, and it is usually located in Carmania, in the southeast of Persia. Scholars also suspect a link with Drangiana and its people, the Drangai, whose name survives in so many variants that a later copying slip could have produced this form. Medieval Arabic geographers knew the region well as the province of Rudhan, southeast of Yazd, whose town became an important centre of textile production in Islamic times.
