Cano
Dalyan
Cano is Caunus, a port on the border of Caria and Lycia whose ruins lie across from Dalyan in Turkey; its Greek name is said to mean a share or lot, while the Lycians called it Xbide. The harbour with its shipyard slowly turned to marsh, and the ruins now stand some way from the sea. The fertile plain was plagued by malaria, and the lyre player Stratonicus, seeing the pale, greenish townsfolk, quoted Homer: as are the generations of leaves, so are those of men. Legend named the city after Caunus, whose sister Byblis fell in love with him.
