Boz Dağ

Listen to the story

Mount Tmolus, the Boz Dağ above Sardis in Turkey, was a blessed mountain to the Greek geographer Strabo: its slopes gave wine and saffron, and the Pactolus, a stream famous for its gold dust, rose here. On the map the stylised range is made the source of the Hermus, which really rises further east, but the Cayster does spring from it, as the map shows. Sardis itself appears as a town picture without a name, set a little apart from the mountains.
