Camistro

Gorni Tsibar

Camistro is probably the fort of Cebrus at Gorni Tsibar in Bulgaria, where the river Cibrica, the ancient Cebrus, joins the Danube and once marked the border between Upper and Lower Moesia. At its mouth, as the Greek historian Cassius Dio tells, Marcus Licinius Crassus defeated the Bastarnae in 29 BC. In late Roman times shield-bearing horsemen and a legionary detachment held the fort. On the map a station seems to be missing on the way to Augustae: the list of places compiled in Ravenna puts Regianum between them.
