Arciotis

Sirreh (Miller)

Arciotis was a main station on the road from Persepolis through Carmania and Gedrosia, the way Alexander's army took on its return from India. Older research placed it at Jiroft, a market town rich in date palms between Hormuz and Sistan. Another proposal links the name with Arachosia, the Persian satrapy called Haravautish in Old Persian inscriptions, whose name outlived antiquity: as Aracusa it turns up on medieval world maps, twice on the Ebstorf map and, around 1260, as the single place listed for Parthia on the London Psalter map.
