Cedrosiani
Baluchistan-Makran
Listen to the story
Cedrosiani are the Gedrosians, the people of a harsh land of mountains and desert that corresponds roughly to Baluchistan, spanning southeast Iran and southwest Pakistan. On the map their name is written in black, although peoples and regions are usually lettered in red, and it sits among the lands towards India. Gedrosia was notorious in antiquity: the historian Arrian tells how Alexander the Great's army was decimated there on its march home. Pack animals died from poisonous oleander, and the sap of spiny euphorbias blinded men. The region's older name, Maka, still lives on in Makran.
