Cenomani
Listen to the story
The Cenomani were a Celtic people, a branch of the Gallic Aulerci, who left their lands between the Loire and the Seine, traditionally around 400 BC, to seek new land in northern Italy. The Roman historian Livy says they settled where Brixia and Verona now stand, today's Brescia and Verona, with Brixia as their chief town. They mostly sided with Rome, even against Hannibal, but rose after the Second Punic War and were defeated in 197 BC. On the map their name sits too far to the left, well away from those two towns, which are drawn further right.
