Cirribe Indi

Zirra

Listen to the story

Cirribe Indi, the Cirribe Indians, is a people the map sets in the far east, among the peaks of the great mountain range. Unusually, the name appears twice: here in small black letters, and again a short way up and to the left, in red, as Cirrabe Indi above the mountains. The geographer Ptolemy knew them as the Cirradae. Scholars disagree about where they lived. Some place them in Sogdiana, near the sources of the Jaxartes. Others link them to the mountain tribes along the Himalaya, recorded by the Roman writer Pliny, and to the Kiranti peoples of Nepal.
