Antifillon

Kaş

Antifillon is Antiphellos, the town at Kaş on the coast of Lycia, which began as the harbour of the inland city of Phellos; Pliny says it was once called Habesos. He also praises its sponges, especially soft ones, found right by the town walls. After the earthquake of 141 AD the benefactor Opramoas of Rhodiapolis gave five thousand denarii towards rebuilding. The map's form of the name may lean on the personal name Antiphilos, and the town was indeed known as Andifli until it was renamed Kaş in the 19th century.
