Thimara
Tamluk Skt.: Tāmralipti
Thimara is usually taken to be Tamralipti, today Tamluk near the mouth of the Hugli in the Ganges delta. The geographer Ptolemy knew it as Tamalites, a city of the Mandalai on the lower Ganges, but set it just below the capital Palimbothra rather than near the coast. Between the fifth and seventh centuries AD, Chinese pilgrims such as Faxian and Xuanzang named it among the foremost seaports of India. The Ravenna list writes Cimmir.
