Thigisi

Ain el Bordj (Barrington) · el Bordj (Miller)

Thigisi was a fortified town on a hill above the plain of Bahiret et-Touila in Numidia, now Ain el Bordj in Algeria. At first it belonged to the colony of Cirta, then became self-governing. A fork in the road here led to Cirta by a shorter and a longer way, which is why two milestones count thirty-four and forty-two miles from that city. Its bishops are known from 305 on; in 484, during the persecution by the Vandal king Huneric, its bishop Domnicosus was sent into exile with many others.
