Gasaupala
Ksar Sbehi
Gasaupala is one of many garbled spellings of Gadiaufala, a town of Numidia south-east of Cirta; the correct form survives on an inscription found at the site, Ksar Sbehi in Algeria. The geographer Ptolemy, the Roman register of routes and the Ravenna list all knew the town, each in its own distorted form. Its bishops are recorded from the third century on, and the historian Procopius, who calls it Gazophyla, rightly put it two days' journey from Constantine. Under Justinian a fort was built here.
