Gazatiae

Caiazzo

Listen to the story

Gazatiae is Caiatia, now Caiazzo, a hill town by the Volturno where the roads from Capua, Allifae and Telesia met. Ancient copyists constantly confused it with Calatia, another town nearby, and only its own coins and inscriptions finally sorted the two apart; here the map even spells it with a G. It is also drawn on the wrong road: it belongs between Telesia and Capua.
