Rapsa

Karaj (Barrington)

Rapsa appears in the geographer Ptolemy as Rhapsa, a town in Media on the road from Ecbatana to Persepolis, and the name goes with a people he calls the Rhapses, not to be confused with the Rhapsioi he places among the Ethiopians of East Africa. Its exact site is unknown; suggestions range from Amaret to Gulpaigan and the country near Sultanabad. Small as it is, the station matters: it shows that this road really branches off at Ecbatana, while the map's other road from Ecbatana towards Europos stands for the route from Susa into Central Asia. The Ravenna list writes Babsa.
