Rababatora

Rabba

Rababatora is Rabbath Moab, the old capital of the Moabites; rabbath means a great city or capital, and the Greeks later called the place Areopolis, the city of Ares. One suggestion sees two names run together in the map's form: Rabba and Betthoro, the camp of the Fourth Legion Martia at Lejjun. The town was a military station and later a bishop's seat in Palaestina Tertia, struck coins under Septimius Severus and Caracalla, and left extensive but poorly preserved ruins at Rabba in Jordan. On the map, the stretch on to Thamaro is drawn as two.
