Rache

Listen to the story

Rache stands on a road that the map leads from Seleucia on the Tigris to Ecbatana, although the city at its end should really be Susa, so the route runs from southern Mesopotamia into Susiana in western Iran. Rache is probably Arakka, which the geographer Ptolemy places on the Tigris, and the Aracha that the historian Ammianus counts, with Susa, Arsiana and Sele, among the most important places of Susiana. Its exact site cannot be fixed. Its place on the map may reflect a revision of this region in the 2nd century AD.
