Road station
Pyrgos
Pyrgos is a bare name on the road from Sabatra to Iconium in Lycaonia, with no picture beside it, and no other source knows this station. The word is Greek for a tower or castle, kept here with its Greek ending, and it points to a fortified place in a naturally sheltered spot. Considerable remains of the Roman road survive, but the station itself has not been found; working from the map's mileages, one suggestion places it between Tatlıcak and Göçü. It should not be confused with the bishop's seat of Pyrgoi.
