Thamaro

Ein Hatseva

Thamaro is the Thamara of the mosaic map at Madaba, a village that Eusebius says had become a fort. It is probably Ein Hatseva in Israel, though older research looked for it at Kurnub. The road that reaches it is strange: sixty-nine Roman miles from Rababatora, about a hundred and two kilometres, then fifty-three more to Elusa, a detour that makes little sense for anyone travelling from Petra to Jerusalem. Even the start of the stretch to Elusa is not marked on the map.
