Piramum

in der Nähe von Kızıltâhta

Piramum stands for Antioch on the Pyramos, a name the coastal city of Mallos bore for a time in the late third and second centuries BC, cut short to the river's name. The map, however, makes it a separate town and draws Mallos again, correctly, on the coast. The mistake goes back to an ancient mapmaker, not the copyist: the Ravenna list, using the same source, also has both names in a row, and an ancient sailing guide likewise puts Antioch a hundred and fifty stadia upriver from Mallos. Mallos was said to be founded by the seers Amphilochos and Mopsos, and had a trusted oracle.
