Cilicia

Listen to the story

Cilicia, a region of Asia Minor on the Mediterranean coast of modern Turkey, belonged in late Roman times to the diocese of the East, a large administrative group of provinces. The map is remarkably thorough here: of that diocese's nine provinces, eight are named, Cilicia among them, alongside Cyprus, several Syrian provinces, Palestine, Arabia and Mesopotamia. Only Commagene is missing.
