Pisauro

Pésaro

Listen to the story

Pisaurum, now Pesaro, was founded as a Roman colony in 184 BC where the river Pisaurus reaches the Adriatic, on land taken from the Gauls. Before the colony there was a sacred grove here, known from a series of inscribed dedications to the gods of central Italy. The town was later called Iulia Felix, and in 544 AD Belisarius, Justinian's general, repaired its walls in the war against the Goths.
