Pirusio

Perugia

Listen to the story

Pirusio is Perusia, now Perugia, one of the twelve cities of the Etruscans, high on a hill between Lake Trasimene and the Tiber. In the civil war after Caesar's death, the young Octavian, the future Augustus, trapped Mark Antony's brother Lucius inside its walls and starved him into surrender; the city was burned and many of its citizens were put to death. Later an inscription dedicated the restored Perusia to Augustus himself. On the map, the distance from Clusium is missing.
