Pisavis

Chapelle de St. Jean de Brenasse

Pisavis was a rest station on the Via Aurelia in the land of the Salluvii, between Arles and Aix, probably at the chapel of Saint-Jean-de-Bernasse near Pélissanne, where stretches of Roman road and other antiquities have been found. It lay near the later border between two late Roman provinces. A milestone found nearby counts eighteen miles from Aix, which matches the map's figure exactly. Even the correct form of the name is uncertain, and its meaning remains obscure; other proposed sites are Les Pinnes and Les Récassiers.
