Rosos

Uluçınar

Rosos is Rhosos, at Uluçınar, once a Syrian seaport on the Gulf of Issos in the district of Pieria, a little east of the headland named after it, the Rhosian rock, now Ras el-Chanzir, the pig's head. Pliny places it near the Syrian Gates, the mountain pass on the road to Antioch. The map counts twenty-eight Roman miles from Alexandria, but its fifteen on to Seleucia probably belong to another road; about twenty-five miles seem to be missing here.
