Romula

Reşca

Romula is drawn at the end of the road from Drobeta, but the figure of seventy miles that leads to it does not belong there: it is the distance from Romula to Novae on the Danube. The town lay at Reșca near Caracal in Romania, by the river Olt; it became a municipium under Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, and a colony under Philip the Arab, who gave it a city wall. Nearby, at Slăveni, a cavalry regiment from Spain received a fort under Septimius Severus in 205. Romula means little Rome, and the map uses the name twice.
